Understanding CCU

This guide explains how Concurrent Users (CCU) work in Eagle 3D Streaming and what happens when your application's CCU limit is reached.

Understanding CCU helps you estimate capacity requirements and choose the right subscription plan.

What is CCU?

CCU (Concurrent Users) means users who are actively streaming at the same time. It does not refer to the total number of visitors or streaming sessions throughout the day.

Example: If 100 users visit your application throughout the day, but only 6 users are streaming at the same time, your application is using 6 CCU.

When a user ends their streaming session, the available CCU is immediately released and can be used by another user.

How CCU Works

Each active streaming session consumes 1 CCU.

The following example shows a Core Plan with 10 CCU.

What Happens When the CCU Limit is Reached?

If all available CCU are currently in use:

  • Additional users are automatically placed in a first-in, first-out (FIFO) queue.

  • A CCU Limit Exceeded message is displayed.

  • The user remains in the queue until a streaming slot becomes available.

Once an active user ends their streaming session, the next user in the queue is automatically assigned the available CCU slot and their streaming session starts.

Increasing CCU

If your application requires more simultaneous users, you can upgrade to a plan with higher CCU capacity.

If your application requires more simultaneous users, you can upgrade to a plan with higher CCU capacity. Enterprise plan supports significantly higher concurrent user limits and can be tailored to your deployment requirements.

Best Practices

  • Estimate your expected peak concurrent users rather than total daily visitors.

  • Configure a reasonable Maximum Session Time to automatically release inactive sessions.

  • Optimize your application startup time so queued users can begin streaming sooner.

  • Upgrade your CCU if users frequently experience queue delays.
