Why Pixel Streaming Starts Muted

This document explains why Pixel Streaming sessions start with audio muted, what causes this behavior, and how users can enable audio.

Why Does Pixel Streaming Start Muted

Modern web browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) prevent media with sound from playing automatically. This is to avoid unexpected audio for users.

Because Pixel Streaming runs in the browser:

  • Video can start automatically

  • Audio will remain muted until the user interacts with the page

This policy is enforced by browsers, not by Eagle 3D Streaming.

How Users Can Enable Sound

Audio will automatically unmute after the first valid user interaction, such as:

  • Clicking a Play / Start button. For detailed instructions: Autoplay and Play Button Guide

  • Clicking inside the streaming area

  • Interacting with the page UI

No additional configuration is required.

Key Points to Know

  • This behavior is standard across all modern browsers

  • Pixel Streaming audio is ready but muted until interaction

  • This ensures a better user experience and compliance with browser policies

  • No changes are required to your Unreal Engine application

Summary

Pixel Streaming starts muted because of browser sound policies. Once the user interacts with the page, audio will play automatically. This is normal behavior and ensures a safe, predictable, and user-friendly streaming experience.
