Unity streaming

Eagle 3D Streaming streams Unity apps to a browser: a Windows build that uses Unity's own Render Streaming package runs on an Eagle 3D Streaming GPU machine, and the viewer sees and controls it in a web page on desktop or phone. Unity streaming is in beta and free while in beta.

What your Unity project needs

  1. Unity Render Streaming (com.unity.renderstreaming), Unity's own package for streaming over WebRTC, set up as in Unity's documentation: a video stream from the camera, audio if you want it, and input receivers for mouse, keyboard and touch.
  2. No connection settings of your own. Leave Render Streaming's signalling address and servers at their defaults - Eagle 3D Streaming supplies them when it starts your app.
  3. A Windows build (x86_64), zipped with its _Data folder.

Verified with Unity 2022.3 (2022.3.62f3) and Render Streaming 3.1: video and audio, mouse, keyboard and touch from the browser, including on an iPhone. Unity 6 (6.6) works too, with three small changes to the package - see step by step, section 3.

What the viewer gets

The same Eagle 3D Streaming player as every other app: full-window video, the settings button, and input sent to your app as Render Streaming input events - so the input handling you wrote for Render Streaming works unchanged. When the viewer closes the page, the session ends and the app is shut down; if the app crashes, the viewer is told.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Unity app be streamed to a web browser?

Yes. Build it for Windows with Unity Render Streaming, and Eagle 3D Streaming runs it on a GPU machine and streams it to any browser. Email support@eagle3dstreaming.com to start.

Do I need to run Unity's own signalling web server?

No. Eagle 3D Streaming provides the signalling and the web page; only the app itself is uploaded.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Touch is sent to the app as Render Streaming touch input. Verified on an iPhone.

What does Unity streaming cost?

Nothing during the beta.

Before uploading: Test a Unity app locally.

Other kinds of app: Stream any app in the browser.
